Small Business Management Program LCCIf you are in business and ready to move to the next level in professional development, Small Business Management (SBM) is for you. Learn from seasoned entrepreneurs while building your network and learning from your peers.

Small Business Management Program Foundations

This Small Business Management Foundation Program consists of three modules. The program runs fall, winter and spring terms with classroom sessions twice a month in the evenings and one-on-one coaching sessions once a month. The one-on-one coaching is designed to fast-track implementation of key concepts and provides the small business owner with access to a professional business consultant who is available to help them improve their business. Registration begins in the summer and classes start in the fall with open enrollment possible with instructor approval. SBM Module: Marketing Foundations, five classes, plus one-on-one advising
Jump-start your new business by learning from seasoned entrepreneurs while building your knowledge of business and your personal network of other small business owners. As one of the three SBM Foundations modules, this five-session module delivers real results for your business through a combination of interactive learning and one-on-one advising. The focus is on all aspects of your marketing with the goal of having each business leave the module with a marketing plan they can execute.

  • Marketing Basics: Building a Plan
  • Marketing: Image and Branding
  • Selling Skills and Strategies
  • Advertising and Promotion
SBM Module: Financial Foundations, five classes, plus one-on-one advising
The most successful product in the world won't overcome a failure to understand the financial aspects of running a business. You'll learn from seasoned entrepreneurs while building your knowledge and gaining the skills you need to lead your company into a successful financial future. As one of the three SBM Foundations modules, this five-session module delivers real results for your business through a combination of interactive learning and one-on-one advising. The focus is on financial statements, accounting and financing for your business with the goal of having each business leave the module with a minimum of cash-flow budget they can administer.

Class Topics Include:
  • Accounting Concepts
  • Introduction to Financial Statements
  • Understanding Break-Even and Margins
  • Cash Flow Management
  • Budging
  • Taxes
  • Working with Accountants
SBM Module: Operations Foundations, five classes, plus one-on-one advising
Having a plan and executing that plan is what this module is all about. At the core of every successful business is a well run operation that understands employee issues, goal setting, customer service strategies, and the list goes on. You'll learn the foundations of successful operations from seasoned entrepreneurs while building your knowledge and getting the insights of your fellow small business owners. As one of the three SBM Foundations modules, this five-session program delivers real results for your business through a combination of engaging classes and one-on-one advising. Core operational concepts are the focus and the goal with each business finishing the module with a concrete plan for managing work flow both in the short-term and in their future growth model.

  • Setting and Achieving Goals and Planning

  • Legal and Insurance Issues
  • Employee Basics, Recruitment, and Management
  • Time Management
  • Recognition Systems
Small Business Management Year II: Systems
The SBM program is a unique combination of monthly classroom sessions and one-on-one personal coaching in which your business is the textbook. SBM: Systems is focusing on growing your business through understanding, creating, and implementing systems within your business. This year of the SBM program is designed for those businesses looking to expand into having employees or who already have a non-ownership workforce. Acceptance into the program is based on an evaluation of the business by the instructor with businesses having completed the SBM Foundations program having first preference. Class topics include: strategic planning, plan/do/check/act, introduction to the e-myth, systems thinking, performance reviews and evaluations, CRM systems and solutions, process creation and documentation, financial statement strategies, marketing systems, leadership and ethics, and class customized topics. Registration begins in the summer and classes start in the fall with open enrollment possible with instructor approval. Small Business Management Year III: Advanced Concepts
Building on the SBM Foundations and SBM Year II: Systems, this series explores a variety of more advanced concepts. Continuing the unique combination of classroom sessions and one-on-one personal coaching, businesses work on mastering the earlier concepts while fine tuning their operation with the new material. SBM: Advanced Concepts is designed for those businesses that have completed the Small Business Management: Systems series. Class topics include: workplace profiles and facilitation skills, sales management, board of directors, sustainability, job costing, budgeting processes, risk management, exit strategies, and customized topics. During the tenth session qualified third-year business owners will receive a certificate of recognition. Registration begins in the summer and classes start in the fall with open enrollment possible with instructor approval.
